Highlights From The Year

Social And Affordable Housing Fund

In March 2017 it was announced that we would partner with the NSW Government to develop and manage social and affordable housing, catering to those most in need across the state, through the Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).

The units will be developed on BaptistCare-owned land and BaptistCare will own and manage the portfolio. The contract with Government will be over a period of 25 years.

The SAHF is a key component of the Future Directions for Social Housing in NSW strategy that will result in more social and affordable housing dwellings linked to tailored support, to help households gain independence.

The 500 new dwellings will be constructed over the next three years in eight locations across metropolitan Sydney, as well as regional and rural areas, with a focus on seniors and single parent families. The sites are Carlingford, Five Dock, Narellan, Goulburn, Lismore, Springwood, Gosford and Newcastle.

We are a registered Community Housing Provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing, and have been providing affordable housing since 1953.

New Housing in Lismore

We officially opened our new community housing in Lismore in November 2016, with Garimaleh Place our second affordable housing location in Lismore – the other being Illowra Place.

The new housing development brings the total number of units we offer in Lismore to 46, and housing provided for 55 local seniors.

Member for Page, Mr Kevin Hogan MP, joined the Mayor of Lismore City Council, Councillor Isaac Smith, for the opening and ribbon cutting at BaptistCare Garimaleh Place.

Garimaleh Place will again grow in coming years, with the provision of funding from the Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF), after we were announced as a successful partner to the NSW Government in March.
